The Broken Wheel Riding club is located in and around the Fox River
Valley in Wisconsin. We are a family oriented club primarily interested
in trail riding and just having fun with our horses. We have monthly
meetings where we can get together and just talk horse stuff. We
have a yearly fun show for our members, a yearly swap fest, a
sleigh/wagon ride, many weekend rides and get togethers, and we try to
organize other learning horse events.
The riding club started 1965 by 5 family's. They are Thurmond and Joyce Doby, Dick and June Everett, Bud and Carol Shephardson, Gordon, Carla Schnur, and Tom Haber. The club put on open halter, pleasure, and speed shows every year. They had hay rides and sleigh rides, Halloween party's, dances, banquets, and rode in many parades. The BWRC put on the first Horse-a-Rama. This was back in the early 70's. It was held inside the building, at Valley Fair Mall. The BWRC did that for a couple years till they were no longer able to have it at that mall. Even back then the members participated in trail rides, and also sponsored different horsey functions. The membership grew very large and over the years membership is still going strong. We now number anywhere from 150 to 200 members. Little by little, the focus changed from a showing club to a trail riding club. The only original member still left in the club is honorary member, June Everett. --------------------info provided by June Everett 2000
